The earthquake that hit the New Jersey/New York City area was detected in facilities in Philadelphia.

On April 5, 2024, a 4.8 magnitude earthquake occurred in Hunterdon county New Jersey. Vibrations were detected by Sensory Sentinel monitoring equipment on all monitors in the Philadelphia and King of Prussia areas, approximately 50 miles from the quake epicenter.

We are sure the research animals in Philly felt this seismic event and did not enjoy the experience. Vibrations felt by animals can confound results even when they are undetectable by humans.

It is vital to note when these types of events occur, so that facilities can reduce disruptive confounds that decrease reproducibility.

Vibrations peaked at 2.52 milli-gs in the Sentry system (floor sensor), but were amplified by threefold and more in nearly all of the cages monitored.
